It was founded in 1845 by John Moses Brunswick, who joined Julius Balke in 1873, thereby forming the J.M. The Brunswick Company was known for making billiard equipment. To clear up some confusion, the single Ultona reproducer played two types of records, the standard 78, with the straight needle and the Pathe style, with the sapphire ball needle. This phonograph has both, the single is shown in the photo. This came standard with the single Ultona reproducer and the double Utona reproducer as an extra cost piece. This also features a counterbalanced lid and an auto stop feature at the end of the record. The brightwork on this one is nickel plate.
